Premiership QPR Chairman Tony Fernandes on Israel and the Palestinians "Zionist Ethnic Cleansing" - Endorsing the "Global March to Jerusalem"

-

-
Over almost the past half-century, Queens Park Rangers (QPR) have had a number of Chairman - from the late, great Jim Gregory, and including among others: David Bulstrode, Richard Thompson, Chris Wright, Bill Power, Gianni Paladini and Flavio Briatore. Like any other club (perhaps more than most!) - and especially in recent years - QPR fans have seen their club experience various off-the-field controversies.

The current Chairman is Tony Fernandes, who took over the club in August (too late!) from Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone. While the club is seemingly headed (temporarily!) back to the Championship, as a Chairman, Fernandes remains extremely popular with QPR fans - including this fan. Fernandes may have made some mistakes in his time at QPR, but overall he has very much both "talked the talk" and "walked the walk." While QPR fans are obviously unhappy with their seeming situation, that unhappiness is not directed towards the Chairman (or the rest of his board, which includes Lakshmi Mittal's son-in-law, Amit Bhatia, who serves as Vice Chairman of QPR, and is also exceedingly popular among QPR Fans).

Among the various other hats Fernandes wears is founder and CEO of Air Asia; and running an F1 Racing Team, Caterham.

And then we come to Middle East.

As previously noted on this blog, March 17, QPR Chairman Tony Fernandes (although his QPR "affiliation" is not mentioned) serves on the "World Advisory Board" of the so-called "Global March to Jerusalem" which is scheduled to conclude, March 30. Fernandes has signed onto a joint statement (see below)"QPR Chairman Tony Fernandes and Israel: "Global March to Jerusalem" Advisory Board Member "

As March 30 approaches, Tony Fernandes ("Tan Sri Anthony Francis Fernandes Malaysian entrepreneur; founder and CEO, Air Asia") remains one of the signatories to the statement (which has added a few names.) Anyone familiar with the views of the people signing on to this statement - not to mention the various organizations and countries (such as Iran) endorsing this March - will recognize this for what it is. And one might note that there is zero mention of any recognition or Israel or of the Jewish historical ties to Jerusalem.

Besides the Global March’s “No Israel” logo, the use of certain phrases in official March statements makes clear its view of Israel: “Zionist Enemy"..."the racist Zionist state of Israel” “Israeli apartheid,” “crime against humanity,” “ethnic cleansing,” and “the occupation of Palestine in 1948” are just some of the terms employed.

The Global March’s organizing statement declares that “[t]he March will demand freedom for Jerusalem and its people and to put an end to the Apartheid, ethnic cleansing and Judaisation policies affecting the people, land and sanctity of Jerusalem. The march will confirm that the policies and practices of the racist Zionist state of Israel against Jerusalem and its people are a crime not only against Palestinians but against all humanity.”

The Global March's Advisory Board issued a joint statement, declaring “[We] are alarmed and deeply troubled by the continuing repression of Palestinians in Jerusalem and by the deliberate and systematic attempts to expel and reduce the Christian and Muslim Palestinian population of the city as part of the policy called “Judaisation,” which is being applied to every part of historic Palestine.… "

“The people of the world have therefore taken it upon themselves to prevent this abomination, by mobilizing themselves in every part of the world and representing all religious, humanitarian, and cultural backgrounds in a global march to Jerusalem (GMJ) aimed at guarding the City of Peace from becoming a wasteland of intolerance..."

“We support the right of the Palestinian People to self-determination, to liberate their lands and to live on them in freedom and dignity like all other people on earth..."

“We support the non-negotiable & inalienable rights of the Palestinian People, including their families, to return to their homes and lands from which they were uprooted.”

To state the obvious, Tony Fernandes can adopt and support any cause he wants; and to advocate any position he choses. And this may in fact be a cause and a perspective held by many (or most) around the world; in England; and even among QPR supporters. Certainly in Malaysia, it is undoubtably an extremely popular position.

However at least for this one QPR fan, it is deeply, deeply disturbing that the Chairman of QPR should support such a position and endorse such a statement - which employs such terms and glaringly incorporates absolutely no recognition of Israel, regardless of its boundaries; and no mention that there is any Jewish historical ties to Jerusalem or to Israel.

For Immediate release:
Global March to Jerusalem gathers support
Distinguished Advisory Board includes Nobel Laureates, issues declaration

On March 30th this year, people from around the world will join Palestinians throughout the Middle East and in the Diaspora in a ground-‐breaking initiative: the Global March to Jerusalem, a day of peaceful, nonviolent demonstrations In Palestine and surrounding countries.

Every year on March 30th Palestinians around the world remember Land Day, which commemorates a general strike and marches in 1976 against Israeli land appropriation, a pivotal event in bringing about Palestinian national unity. This year Palestinians will call attention to the dangers facing Jerusalem as a city that embodies the cultural heritage of the three monotheistic religions: Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.

In a strategy to Judaise the holy city, the Israeli government has long denied most Palestinians – whether Muslim or Christian – access to Jerusalem, even to visit holy sites. Through methods of ethnic cleansing, Israel has been forcing Jerusalem’s remaining Palestinian inhabitants out, thus endangering the multi-‐religious, multi-‐ethnic character of the city that is the intended capital of Palestine.

Now a distinguished Advisory Board of political, religious, and cultural leaders as well as leading scholars from around the world is lending its weight in support of the Global March to Jerusalem. In a strongly worded declaration, the Advisory Board members state that Israeli government efforts to change the Arabic and cultural identity of the city are a crime against humanity. They urge that all of humanity actively support this peaceful Palestinian civil resistance movement.

The Palestinian coalition organizing the Global March to Jerusalem is perhaps unprecedented in its breadth and brings together virtually all political and religious perspectives among the Palestinian people. Supporters in five continents are joining them in a multi-‐cultural, multi-‐religious, multi-‐lingual effort on March 30th that includes sending delegations to join the March itself and preparing local solidarity actions as well as demonstrations at Israeli Embassies in key cities. Land caravans from India, Indonesia, and Malaysia, are already making their way towards Jerusalem, and delegations from dozens of countries are expected.

On March 30th, the Palestinians and their international supporters will attempt to get as close to Jerusalem as they can: whether at the borders of Lebanon and Jordan, at checkpoints in the West Bank, or at the Erez crossing in Gaza. There will also be a demonstration in Jerusalem itself. Many of the Advisors will personally participate in the March: for example, Irish Nobel Laureate Mairead Maguire will join the protests in Lebanon.

Among the Advisory Board members who signed the declaration are Archbishop Desmond Tutu, South African Nobel Peace Laureate; Swami Agnivesh, former Member of the Indian Parliament; George Galloway, former Member of the British Parliament; Dr. Cornel West, philosopher, writer and civil rights activist; Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative; Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, author and activist in the Jewish Renewal Movement; Ronnie Kasrils, South African national liberation leader and former cabinet minister; Dr. Norman Paech, former Member of the German Parliament; Marwah Daud Ibrahim, Indonesian feminist, writer and Member of Parliament; Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Pastor Emeritus at the Trinity United Church of Christ; Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammed, former Prime Minister of Malaysia; Sheikh Raed Salah, founder of the Islamic Movement for ’48 Palestinians; Ahmad Obeidat, Former Jordanian Prime Minister; Bouguerra Soltani, Algerian Government Minister; Neta Golan, Co-‐Founder of the International Solidarity Movement; and H.E. Atallah Hanna, Archbishop of Sebastia, Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

During a time of upheaval throughout the Middle East, the nonviolent demonstrations on Palestinian Land Day this year could well mark a turning point in the Palestinian struggle for liberation and self-‐determination. The declaration in support of the Global March to Jerusalem by this distinguished Advisory Board underscores the key role the international community can and must play in supporting the struggle for more just and democratic societies throughout the Middle East, and in Palestine. Indeed such strong support demonstrates to the world that "the people of the world demand freedom for Jerusalem" and all of Palestine.

Full declaration of support and a selected list of signatories

We, the Advisory Board of the Global March to Jerusalem, are alarmed and deeply troubled by the continuing repression of Palestinians in Jerusalem and by the deliberate and systematic attempts to expel and reduce the Christian and Muslim Palestinian population of the city as part of the policy called “Judaisation,” which is being applied to every part of historic Palestine.

This policy is inconsistent with all relevant United Nations resolutions on Jerusalem and contrary to the most basic principles of international law. Its purpose is plainly to ethnically cleanse Jerusalem of its non-‐Jewish population and transform a once proud symbol of international tolerance and religious and cultural diversity into an exclusionary and racist enclave.
Jerusalem is our common universal heritage. It is the centre of spirituality and ideological significance for all of the monotheistic religions, and a beacon of emancipation and hope for the downtrodden. This historic city is venerated across the world for enhancing the spiritual heritage of all humanity; it has been a symbol of unity and equality, with a message of love, mercy and compassion.

However the entire world is now witnessing a threat to the sovereignty, sanctity and inviolability of Jerusalem. The plan is not only to destroy the Muslim and Christian presence, but also to change and dismantle the social structure of Jerusalem, obliterating its indigenous Arab identity and changing the character of the city.

The people of the world have therefore taken it upon themselves to prevent this abomination, by mobilizing themselves in every part of the world and representing all religious, humanitarian, and cultural backgrounds in a global march to Jerusalem (GMJ) aimed at guarding the City of Peace from becoming a wasteland of intolerance. We therefore lend our names to support the convergence of people from all countries and continents of the world to Jerusalem, and to the nearest points to which they are able to approach, both inside Palestine and at the Palestinian borders with Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon, as well as in their own countries, in a peaceful march towards Jerusalem.

We therefore support this effort, and encourage all of humanity to support it, by making the pledge set forth below, that all participants in the Global March to Jerusalem have agreed to accept.

We assert the importance of Jerusalem politically, culturally and religiously to the Palestinian people and humanity as a whole. We call for the protection of the Holy Places and all archeological sites and consider all the efforts done to change its Arabic and cultural identity as a crime against humanity. We call on all international institutions to do their duties towards the city.
The defense of Jerusalem and its liberation are a duty of all free people around the world and we call on all institutions, organizations, and individuals to participate in this duty.

We condemn the Zionist campaign of ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem and the rest of Palestine including all ongoing policies intended to change the demographic and geographic situation in the city and aimed at its Judaisation. We also condemn the continuation of the Zionist occupation forces in building the apartheid wall that aims to expropriate more Palestinian lands and convert the occupied areas into shrinking cantons isolated from each other.

We support the right of the Palestinian People to self-‐determination, to liberate their lands and to live on them in freedom and dignity like all other people on earth.

We support the non-‐negotiable & inalienable rights of the Palestinian People, including their families, to return to their homes and lands from which they were uprooted.

We reject all racist laws that distinguish between people based on ethnicity or religion and call for their cancellation and criminalization.

The Global March to Jerusalem does not represent any one faction or political party, but we call for participation of all social forces, political factions, and ideologies.

The Global March to Jerusalem is a global peaceful movement, which does not use violence to achieve its goals.

From a Profile of and Interview with New Notts County Manager, Keith Curle Sheffield Telegraph/James Shield "Happy man: Keith Curle is pleased to be a boss again"

Journalist James Shield writes "QPR’s return to the top flight was the subject of a recent BBC documentary - “The Four Year Plan” - which painted a less than flattering picture of then chairman Gianni Paladini’s reign. Curle, though, has an altogether different take on the larger than life Italian.
“When Gianni left QPR, the heartbeat of the club went as well,” he said.

QPRnet: We had a good season in your first full campaign in charge but towards the end of it you lost Rodney Marsh to Manchester City, how did that come about and was it something you were in favour of?

GJ: Rodney wanted to leave QPR, he thought that, even though he’d earned his first England cap whilst playing for us, that to get carry on earning call ups he had to be with a first division club. I tried to convince him that we were heading for the first division but unfortunately Manchester City had made it no secret that they wanted him and consequently he wanted to leave. The Chairman negotiated a terrific deal for us and we received £200,000 pounds clear, which was a great deal for us at the time.

Committee Meeting Thursday 10th February 2012
6.00 pm, Loftus Road

Present: OSC members as invited

Philip Beard (PB)
Becky Grote (BG)
Daniel Laryea (DL)

1)EGM – outstanding issues from 2011

Philip Beard (PB) opened the meeting with a welcome and thanks for those attending.  He also apologised for the delay in arranging the EGM.  The purpose of the meeting would be to elect members of the OSC Committee and to address any outstanding issues, i.e. ticket prices.

PB gave an overview of the new structure of QPR and stated that it had been four months, 21 days since the structure had changed on 18 August 2011.  Tony Fernandes and partners now owned 66%, the Mittals owned 33% with 1% owned by QPR fans.  PB went on to give an insight into his professional background and introduced his colleagues from the Marketing Department:  Becky Grote (BG) and Daniel Laryea (DL).   PB assured the meeting that they had tried to listen to what the fans were saying and the demonstration of dissatisfaction at ticket pricing.  The Board had made the gesture of refund vouchers on season tickets which he hoped was well received.  Buying five players and loan signings were also a demonstration of commitment by the shareholders.  With the run of the past few games, some transfer activity is needed in January, specifically in defence and attack.  There is a determination to stick together throughout the season in order to maintain QPR’s position in the Premier League. Another aim in the short to mid-term will be to build a new training ground, with the Club looking at a number of potential sites for the new facilities. Also developing potential for a new stadium in the local vicinity.

John Reid (JR), Secretary of the QPR LSA, was then invited to ask questions.  JR gave his warmest greetings on behalf of the LSA and assured the meeting that the LSA was happy to support QPR in whatever division.  He remarked that the 25th anniversary of the LSA was approaching and he hoped that the Club and supporters would join in celebration of that event, specifically requesting input by way of commemoration in the match programme.  JR informed PB, BG and DL that the LSA had written several letters to the Club in the recent past but had received no replies so far.  The LSA would like to have regular, separate, meetings with the Club every three months and mentioned that as the LSA was an independent group, their perspective could perhaps be better than that of the OSC.  The LSA would like to be involved in discussions regarding ticket pricing, new ground, etc.

PB apologised that there had been a lack of communication in lots of areas, and demonstrated that in the past this had even been true of the Club with its near neighbours, the Jack Tizard school.  Their relationship and communication had recently improved significantly and they were working well together.  PB remarked that communication with fans groups was not as good as it should be, but would like to commit to an open line of communication. He would revert to the LSA by way of follow-up.  Although there had been a tough run-in of games recently, support is strong but we need to work together towards greater stability.

A point was raised from the floor by Michael Derrane that there were so many supporters’ groups, with factions and divisions, that the Club needed to reach out.  Vic Stevenson pointed out that there were only two recognised supporters groups – the LSA and the OSC – the rest were messageboards or fan forums.  It was further mentioned from the floor that all members had been given an equal opportunity to attend the EGM/AGM, demonstrating that communication was not entirely lacking.  Several issues, including stewarding, ticket sales, loyalty points scheme, website information, etc were raised, most of which will be discussed at future OSC Committee meetings.

Bill Cox suggested that the Club could employ a Fans Liaison Officer, or perhaps have a regular contributor in the programme, to whom fans could correspond to aid communication.  PB stressed the current need to prioritise within the Club and it was unlikely to be able to fund headcount for a function such as this, particularly when communication should be straightforward.

PB had not been involved in the loyalty points scheme but recognised the need to review it.

Vic Stevenson raised the issue of the £3.50 booking fee when buying tickets in cashless transactions.  It was felt unfair that cash sales were not taken on some occasions and therefore fans were bound to pay the booking fee.

PB stressed that the Club was looking at its Premier League competitors, not to replicate their processes but there was a need to adopt best practices, to recognise the procedures of other Premier League Clubs and utilise the best ideas for QPR as there was a need to generate significant revenues.

The Club recognised that some fans groups had been disagreeing, that there were huge problems and would work on how to rebuild trust and understanding, perhaps with more frequent and larger meetings than this evening’s EGM/AGM.   PB wanted to arrange and diarise a set of regular meetings throughout the course of the year.

Ron Hill asked that, on the revenue side, should the Club consider having a retail outlet on a local high street?  PB had looked into the possibility of a QPR concession at Westfield, but the costs involved were huge and that a High Street store was probably not an option as the economics were not viable.  It was considered that online retail capability was high and the Club was looking at improvements in that regard.  It was stated by several members that some QPR items (calendars, replica shirts, etc) were being sold elsewhere at costs significantly lower than the Club Shop.  PB explained that market forces meant that the Club could not compete with larger chains.

Ron Hill remarked that Fulham had recently sold tickets for their European games at a very low cost.  PB stated that it would take around 5/6 years to compete with the bigger Premier League clubs, and the focus was to stay in the Premier League.  PB then had to leave the meeting but would be happy to meet in future.

2) Election of Committee

BG and DL held this part of the meeting on behalf of the OSC.

Karen Hampshire (KH) was standing as Chairperson and gave an overview of her capabilities and suitability for the role.  It was a unanimous vote for Karen to reassume the role as Chairperson.

KH then read the list of 10 other applicants for the remaining 10 places on the Committee:

Linda Favell Brian Paterson
Ian Stenning Alison Burgess
Russell Wilson Kishan Parmar
Rebecca Favell Simon Paterson
Nicola Hammond Andrew Pearson

At this point, Mark Wayne objected to there being family members being put forward for the Committee places.  A debate ensued and it was largely felt that there would be no conflicts with members of same family serving on the Committee.

The following were voted onto the Committee without objection:

Nominated                Seconded
Linda Favell Ron Hill Lionel Watson
Brian Paterson               Ron Hill Rebecca Favell
Ian Stenning        Vic Stevenson      William Hampshire
Alison Burgess   Zach Hampshire  Mark Wayne
Russell Wilson   Lionel Watson   Michael Derrane
Kishan Parmar              Ron Hill     Vic Stevenson
Rebecca Favell  Simon Paterson  Zach Hampshire
Simon Paterson   Lionel Watson  William Hampshire

As Nicola Hammond and Andrew Pearson were not present at the meeting, it was felt that their applications to stand were no longer viable.

Mark Wayne requested that he be considered for a place on the Committee.  He was nominated by Vic Stevenson and seconded by Jeremy Gardner.  This was met with no objection.

KH gave apologies on behalf of Pat and Tom Harrison who had been unable to attend the meeting.  She also informed the meeting that two past Committee members did not stand for re-election and gave thanks to Brian Ahearne and Zach Hampshire for their previous contributions.

3) 2012 AGM:
Minutes from last meeting
Overview of activities
Financial updates

There were no matters arising from the minutes of the AGM held on 16 February 2011.

Linda Favell (LF) informed the meeting that there would be nothing to report by way of OSC activities for the past year.  Due to the unavoidable difficulties faced by the Club and the Committee in the recent past, the OSC Committee had been unable to fulfill its usual programme of fundraising and fan liaison.

LF gave the financial report for the past year, copies of which were distributed to those present.  She explained that it had been mutually agreed to discontinue the Ron Bannister memorial fund which currently stands at zero balance.  The last financial transaction had been a £50 donation to the Demelza Hospice in memorial of Neil Roberts.  The balance of the OSC account had remained constant at £333.98 for the past eight months.

4) AOB

Ron Hill asked whether the Open Day, Christmas Open Day and Fans’ Forums would be reinstated in the near future.  Although these items would be brought to a future Committee meeting, Becky Grote (BG) stated that Fans’ Forums would be something that are being considered for the future.  Daniel Laryea (DL) remarked that the Open Day and Christmas Open Days are being considered and would be arranged.  It had been difficult to do this year, due to the changing structure at the Club.

Ron Hill asked about the players’ participation at events such as the Player of the Year Dinner and Kit Sponsorship Evening.  BG said there was a commitment amongst Neil Warnock, Philip Beard and the playing staff.  Joey Barton had formed a Players’ Council where a rotation of players dealt with external representation – hospital and school visits, etc – as well as internal meetings.  Thus, the commitment of the playing staff had improved enormously.

LF reminded those present to use the OSC email address to raise any issues for future Committee meetings, thereby raising issues to the Club and improving the Club/supporter relationships.

Michael Derrane again brought up the issue regarding lack of communication.  It was felt by many that, having discussed this at length during the meeting, this would be a new start for the Club, the OSC, the LSA and the supporters as we now have a real opportunity to work together.

Although it seemed a very short-notice meeting, the EGM had taken a long time to come about, with the previous OSC Committee members pursuing the request many times since the Summer of 2011.  It was recognised that during the establishment of the new structure at the Club, there would not have been any alternative but to wait until the time was right but that at their soonest opportunity, BG and DL had acted swiftly and effectively.  A vote of thanks was given by KH to the Club, specifically to PB, BG and DL for the meeting arrangements, and to the members who had attended the meeting.

The meeting concluded at 8.30 pm.

The Greatest Football Legends Show on Earth
Iconic footballers from this country and abroad are back in training, getting their boots back on, and ready to do battle in a four team cup tournament at Loftus Road on Sunday May 20.
Queens Park Rangers Football Club and 20-20 Football extend a warm welcome to the media and photographers for the launch of THE ELITE LEGENDS CUP. 20-20 Football’s Technical Director Glenn Hoddle, and Players Director Bobby Campbell will be at the launch on Tuesday March 6, from 2pm

The Elite Legends Cup, featuring Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and hosts QPR, is sure to be a sell out, as interest heightens in the 11-a-side 20-minute each way Cup format.

Arguably, the greatest ever collection of legends will assemble for the competitive 11-a-side legends tournament, under the new and innovative 20-20 Football rules devised by the former England, Chelsea and Spurs manager. As a curtain raiser there will be a three team Forces tournament mirroring the 20-20 Football format, in aid of Help For Heroes, “The Fallen Heroes Cup”

The 20-20 Football format has already gone down well with ex-players, and is ideal for TV coverage and sponsorship as Hoddle says: “When I was approached to get involved, this just got me. I have always felt that playing 90 minutes was a problem to any player who has given up the game professionally.

AN EVERTON PERSPECTIVE OF EVERTON and QPR

QPR Report Correspondent, MaudesFishnChips Interview with Simon Paul of Everton Fan Site NSNO. Many thanks to Simon for providing the interview. And to MaudesFishnchip for conducting the interview

How long have you supported Everton?

There's a saying that Evertonians are born, so by that logic, 35 years now. God I'm old.

How did you get to your site? Has it evolved how you would of expected?

The site started on the same day Wayne Rooney broke his toe in the 2004 European Championships as just something I wanted to do as a hobby. We now serve around 6 million pages a month and have a lot of great people involved in the site. Through the site we've all got to meet some Everton legends, with my dad's hero from the 70's staying at my house a few times. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure it's all real!

Who are Everton's biggest Rival (or Rivals) and why? (thought i'd ask!!)

Liverpool. They try and pretend that playing Man Utd is more important than the Merseyside derby, and maybe for 90% of their fans, who don't come from Merseyside, it might be, but for us true scousers it is always the first game we look for when the fixtures are released.

Are you happy with your team and how things are to date? What are your opinions on your manager ? His spending/selling so far?

If we could have kept Mikel Arteta last summer, then the team would be markedly better, but Darron Gibson is proving as surprising as Phil Neville did as a new signing. We could do with a bit more pace around the place, and we've yet to see what Jelavic can do. We need to stop this habit of starting seasons so badly - our defeat to your (now) reserve team at Goodison was a perfect example of how badly we start the season.

I'd like to see David Moyes work with a bigger budget, both to improve the team and also to see if he can actually work with money. Considering his budget, Moyes has done very well, but he needs to prove he can take us to the next level.

What do you think of your current Owner? WHY is he involved? What do you expect from him?

Bill Kenwright is a pauper in terms of the Premier League. He is a massive Evertonian, but that is his only qualification. Football is a billionaires business now, and we need a billionaire - or a large group of millionaires - in order to give the manager the funds he needs to push us forward. We operate at a loss of 5m a season, which cripples us. All I expect from Bill is to sell to someone with more money.

How do you think Everton treats its fans? Appreciates them? Listens to them? Screws them?

I think there are good and bad involved in the club. I think the majority inside the club are finally realising that the club NEEDS their fans, but that the walls are well and truly up thanks to the current gaggle of protest groups. The club felt betrayed by The Blue Union for secretly recording an interview with the chairman, and it has predictably become more difficult to speak to anyone in power at Everton as a result.

Saying that, the "Fans Forum" which was criticised for having a hand picked membership and refusing to release minutes of their meetings has become more open, and NSNO has access to someone on the forum so that our members can put their questions to the club via this. We also have a better relationship with staff at the club, who recently made dreams come true for one of our members' daughters by introducing her to Tim Cahill on matchday.

Who are you Dangermen/Most valued/most overrated/most underrated players?

Leighton Baines is our most valued possession. His passing and runs down the left with Steven Pienaar are our most effective weapon at the moment. Denis Stracqualursi is getting a lot of hype just now as he's scored a few important goals and runs his balls off every game. It's hard to see past the guile though, and his skill on the ball leaves a little to the imagination! Tony Hibbert and Leon Osman are both scousers and often underrated by fans, but both play their hearts out, and Leon Osman has no little skill and a ferocious shot when he lets fly.

Are you happy with your youth set up? Is your club doing enough to bring young/local talent through the ranks?

Our academy is fantastic. The buildings now match the systems put in place 20 years ago and there seems to be an endless stream of talent coming through. Jack Rodwell needs to get fit and could then deserve a full England call up again. Ross Barkley is an exciting prospect but again needs to stay fit. There are lads further down the line as well, Conor McAleny, Jake Bidwell, and Luke Garbutt could all make it at Everton.

Who would you say was the greatest Everton player that you yourself personally saw? And past player? (You can name more than one if it's that close!)

The greatest player I ever saw was Neville Southall. A truly world class goalkeeper for more than a decade. As far as outfield players go I'd have to say Trevor Steven was my favourite. He scored one of the first goals I saw that made me think "Wow!" because of the skill. He'd received a 50 yard pass across the pitch on the opposite touchline, and with one touch he had brought it under control and set off running at defenders. He beat 3 before smashing the ball home from the corner of the 18 yard box into the far top corner of the goal.

He'll probably shout at me if I don't say him, so Bob Latchford. He was my dad's hero and I grew up on stories of how great he was as a player - your fans might remember him scoring four past you in the 70's! - and now, because of the site, I can consider him a friend.

What is your prediction for the toffee's this season?

FA Cup semi final and 8th place finish

Who do you predict to be in the bottom three at the end of this season

Wigan, Wolves, and Blackburn

Are you aware of any past player or manager links between our two clubs ?

Well Mark Hughes picked up some wages from us at the end of his career!

Dave Thomas was inspirational at Everton with his crosses from the left, and his socks rolled down.

Kevin McLeod was on loan with you for 6 weeks as well!

What is your view and the general Everton view of QPR?

I hated you when Les Ferdinand played for you! I think the general view is that you are a club who have worked hard to regain your top flight status. When I was growing up you were always in the top flight, and it's been a long time coming for you to get back here. I think most of us want you to stay up, and Loftus Road is a proper football stadium which everyone enjoys visiting.

Who(if any) is your most memorable/favourite QPR Player ? past or present

For me, Ray Wilkins and Gerry Francis stand out, but I also like Joey Barton - on the pitch, off it he is the personification of everything that is wrong with modern-day footballers

Any memorable matches between our two clubs that stand out for you? And the reasons why?

Not for me personally, but my dad always told me about the game Latch scored 4 in!

Your score prediction for QPR vEverton?

1-0 to Everton I think, either a very late or very early goal in a tight game

What, realistically, do you think Everton are capable of achieving in the next five years?

We should be looking to win either the League Cup or the FA Cup, but also qualifying for the Europa League every year. If we got solid investment then I would hope Champions League qualification could be within reach.

Again many thanks to Simon Paul of Everton Fan Site NSNO. Many thanks to Simon. And to MaudesFishnchips for conducting the interview
